Why AC maintenance after summer matters in Dubai
- Dust and sand clog filters and coils. A blocked filter makes the unit work harder and use more electricity.
- Humidity feeds mould. Damp coils and drain trays are the main cause of musty smells inside the home.
- Small faults grow. A weak capacitor or low gas found in October is a cheap fix. The same fault in July can mean a full breakdown.
Your AC checklist: what you can do yourself
1. Clean or replace the filters
Switch the unit off, open the front panel and slide out the filters. Wash them with lukewarm water, let them dry fully in the shade, then refit. In Dubai, check filters every 2 to 4 weeks.
2. Look and listen
Turn the AC on and stand near it for a few minutes. Rattling, clicking, buzzing or a burning smell are signs that something needs a technician.
3. Check for water leaks
Water dripping from the indoor unit or stains on the wall below it usually mean a blocked drain line. Left alone, it can damage paint, gypsum and furniture.
4. Notice how fast it cools
If a room takes much longer to cool than it used to, or the air feels weak, the coil may be dirty or the gas level may be low.

A sudden jump in your bill without a change in use is often the first sign that your AC is losing efficiency.
